Bobby Hutcherson – Step Lightly (1963)

November 28, 2016

Amongst all the musicians who died this year (and there have been quite a few) was the great jazz vibes player Bobby Hutcherson. I was thinking about which track to post as a tribute and I changed my mind to this classic, down tempo 60s recording from the album ‘The Kicker’.

The album was recorded by the famous and brilliant Blue Note engineer Rudy Van Gelder, who died less than a month after Hutcherson.

Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on December 29, 1963. Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone); Joe Henderson (tenor saxophone); Duke Pearson (piano); Grant Green (guitar); Bob Cranshaw (bass); Al Harewood (drums).

  1. Great choice, great band. Sad news (that I’d missed). Fabulous vibes-man.
